Can I bring my young children to The Verdict?
Although, The Verdict has long prided itself on not taking efforts to define the moral compass of it's individual patrons (within reason). The fact of the matter is, this establishment sells and promotes the use of alcohol in a managed fashion within the premises. And, one of the effects of alcohol is often that people say and do inappropriate things. If that doesn't answer your question, let us say this.... it's probably not a good idea.
Can I rent out the bar for an event?
Yes, arrangements can be made with Verdict management to reserve and/or cater sections of the bar for personal or business events or parties. Our management team is well versed in event planning and we’d love to take part in your event. The “entire” bar (with our staff) can be rented for events. We prefer to keep “entire” bar events limited to Sundays as to not disrupt the normal course of business or our repeat patrons. However, special arrangements can be made.
Can I have a Birthday Party at The Verdict?
Yes, absolutely, we would be more than happy to celebrate your special day with you. We’ve become a very popular venue for birthdays. Please contact The Verdict management team and make arrangements. We can provide reserved sections, catering, special table arrangements, a signature drink, and proper staffing to accommodate you on your special day. Aside from a cake, outside food and drinks are prohibited, but we can provide you with everything you need; even your birthday cake.
Can I bring my own food, alcohol or beverage to The Verdict?
Uhhh, NO! ...and that's a hard NO. For one exception with management preapproval, event related food can be preapproved and offered to your guests only. Otherwise, there are no exceptions. Firstly, it is against the law to bring any alcohol with you to any bar within the State of Nebraska. And secondly, any unapproved outside beverage or food exposes the business to certain risks and liability. The Verdict takes this very seriously, therefore patrons that choose to violate this rule, will be immediately removed from the premises and possibly legally banned and barred from ever entering the premises again.
Can The Verdict service a large group?
That's a very tough question. In general, Yes, but it all depends on the exact logistics, group size, timing, needs, wants, and perceived entitlements of the group. First and foremost, large group arrangements should be made ahead of time with our staff and management. The planning process is key in developing a manageable event and servicing large groups as every factor of our business is impacted in some way or another. It is commonly misunderstood that if we service 50 patrons throughout a given business day, than that is perceived to be the same as servicing 50 patrons in an hour. This assumption is incorrect and is a completely different scenario and level of service. However, there are ways in making this a manageable success. It is important that every aspect of the event be relayed to Verdict management so that an organized plan can be developed. Like most bar & grill's our size, we only have so many staff members and only so much square footage behind the bar as well as in the kitchen. For instance, if we overwhelm our kitchen with 50 made to order food orders all at once, the kitchen will crash and basically shut down. In these cases, banquet or buffet style food options would better serve this type of group... and we can prepare this. Pre-batched signature drinks is another way to relieve some of the pressure on the bar staff. There are a lot of options and most likely we can plan something with you with great success!
Is The Verdict a full-service restaurant?
Good question! In every sense of the "term" full-service restaurant, No. Like many bar & grills and some pubs, The Verdict falls into a hybrid category where the establishment doesn't quite fit the mold of that of a full-service restaurant (aka FSR), nor does it really fit the mold for a limited-service restaurant (aka LSR, i.e. quick-service restaurant, casual dining, fast food). There are distinct differences between the two, but there are two primary reasons why The Verdict doesn't fit the exact mold for either. Table-service and Counter-payments. We strive to provide table-service to each and every patron at all times of the day or night, however, typically at unpredictable peak periods on weekend eves or nights (Fri or Sat), The Verdict's sales switch for a 50/50 mix of alcohol/food sales to an 80/20 mix of alcohol/food sales which, depending on occupancy at that time, keeps the staff very busy at the bar itself. Most patrons sitting at tables seamlessly and positively respond to this transition by ordering food at the bar with their drinks without blinking an eye. Regardless, all food orders will be brought to you by a Verdict staff member. The inability of Verdict staff to provide table-service could easily be remedied by scheduling additional staff, however unlike planned and scheduled events, these peak periods are again next to impossible to predict. At current sales levels, and in an effort to maintain lower payroll costs, Verdict management has chosen to maintain normal staffing levels during these unpredictable peak periods which ultimately keeps product pricing lower for our patrons. Because of exactly this, the patron receives substantial savings on their tab.
Should I add a tip or gratuity to my purchases at The Verdict?
Yes, absolutely yes! It is important to remember that a server or bartender makes a very low hourly wage; much lower than the average hourly wage for most other jobs. In this country, regardless of profession, religion, ethnicity, race or any other demographic, it is customary and expected that a patron tip or leave gratuity for a bartender or server ranging from 15-25% of your total based on the level of service you've received. If you legitimately feel you've not received the service you've expected, please ask to see a manager, so that manager can correct the issue within reason. As posted on our wall, we do reserve the right to add an automatic gratuity to groups and during events only to insure our staff are receiving the appropriate compensation they deserve and are warranted.
Do I have to purchase anything to come into The Verdict and/or can I drink water all night?
With all due respect, we are not in business to provide free entertainment and to serve tap water! Regardless of the level of entitlement you perceive you have, you'll be sadly mistaken as you will be asked to leave. Save yourself the embarrassment and stay home. If you are a paying customer and want water with your meal or other beverage, we are absolutely more than willing to accommodate your wants and needs. If you are a designated driver for a group of paying patrons, we are also more than willing to accommodate you.
Does The Verdict have a dress code?
No, we do not. We do ask that you don't wear anything that is offensively revealing or clothing that expresses clear threats or that conveys hateful ideas or names.
Can I park outside The Verdict & sit in my car?
Realizing this is a very popular phenomenon lately, yet extremely bizarre and peculiar trend sweeping the nation in recent years, we'd greatly appreciate it if you didn't. Granted, The Verdict cannot dictate where and when you park on a public city street, however we'd appreciate that you be respectful of The Verdict & its neighboring businesses as parking around the building should be open to paying customers. Furthermore, don't be surprised if the Omaha Police pay a visit to your vehicle, as this creeper-like behavior makes both patrons and staff nervous. We do however, ask that you don't "park & sit" within the buildings private parking areas as you will be asked to leave by management and security; it's at this point you are illegally trespassing and the Police will be immediately notified. Honestly though, can you not make better use of your time and gas money?
Is The Verdict a "theater" bar?
We refuse all labels, as we do not cater to any particular group or demographic. We are not a niche bar! We do however, have a performing arts following at times. It's not uncommon to find a cast and crew at The Verdict following a live performance. A number of local & nationally touring celebrities have found their way into The Verdict over the years. We do ask that you are respectful of their privacy as our staff and security are vigilant in keeping everyone comfortable.
Must I be in the legal profession to patron the Verdict Bar & Grill?
No, absolutely not! It’s only a name! Again, no labels please. The bar and restaurant name is twofold. One, it is the answer to the question that you ask your friends about what decision they’ve made about where to go or what to do. “So, what’s the verdict?” The verdict is “The Verdict.” And, secondly, the Verdict name also comes from its physical location being across the street from the Hall of Justice or Courthouse. Please know, that everyone is welcome in the bar and restaurant. The bar and grill will never cater to any one crowd or group of patrons. We have a wide variety of patrons and a friendly staff that will welcome you.
Is the Verdict a “gay” bar?
Is this really even a thing anymore? Although rather humorous, we are unclear as to where this label came from. And typically, we would not partake in even trying to explain such ignorance. But, if you must know… The Verdict Bar & Grill is not a gay bar, nor do we cater to any one select crowd or group in particular, nor do we partake in or tolerate discrimination. It’s a friendly bar that welcomes and accepts everyone, and as a result our patron demographic varies widely regardless of profession, age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual preference, or gender identity. Factually, the Verdict staff is predominately straight, but regardless treat all patrons equally and with respect. Might you see a drag queen at The Verdict? Perhaps, anything is possible, we welcome everyone! Well then so it must be the fact that there has been some “gay money” invested into the bar and restaurant. Or maybe, the fact that the management and staff of the Verdict have been supportive of nonprofit LGBTQ organizations (such as ICON & PFLAG) and have sponsored LGBTQ related events including Heartland Pride. But, again we don’t discriminate; as the Verdict has also sponsored far more nonprofit events for organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Habitat for Humanity, Irreverent Warriors, Creighton University, Nebraska Aids Project, AIM, Nebraska Humane Society, Omaha Symphony, Theater Arts Guild, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and All About Omaha. So, I guess to some, if having some “gay money” invested into a business and sponsoring a few nonprofit events for LGBTQ related organizations, makes the Verdict a “gay” bar, then with that logic we’ve got many grocery stores, big box retailers, banks, gas stations, manufacturers, hospitals, car dealers and other bars and restaurants all over this country that must be “gay” as well. Who knew! ...you can't fix stupid!
In turn, let me ask you this... why is it in this day and age, that so many obsess over trying to label everything and everyone? Why further segregate our society? Segregation, and the hate associated with it, is exactly what tears our communities apart. Stop obsessing over labels... It's a slippery slope kids! Remember these famous and powerful words that was the best advice left for humanity... "United We Stand, Divided We Fall"
